Oh & grog's not scottish, it's from the west country (somerset/dorset). i can't remember exactly what it is, but some unpleasant warm alcoholic beverage springs to mind, let me check...

oh well, i got that almost entirely wrong:

Grog was a mixture of rum and water. It was served as a ration in the United States Navy until September 1, 1862, and in the Royal Navy until 1970.

hmm, fair point, that would explain a lot of things, what with having to listen to them play in our bloody school hall every bloody chritmas as a special 'treat'.

The Scot I knew had a lovely accent and he knew how to use it to his advantage. He could get away with the most miserable shite because it sounded great when he said it.
