![]() PICCADILLY CAFE, DENMAN ST, LONDON W1
This place has not changed since the 50s. Well I started going there nearly 20 years ago and I know it hasn't changed since then. The staff are personable and the food is cheap. Bearing in mind it's the West End (just off Piccadilly Circus, close to the Piccadilly Theatre) it is cheap - you can get two courses and a drink for under a tenner. Funny, they still don't do diet drinks....I have been asking them for about 10 years now.... You can take your own booze in there, they dont charge for corking. Tip them well. WONG KEE In Wardour St, W1 - down the Leicester Square end. It's amongst a hundred other Chinese places, it's in the heart of Chinatown (not to be compared with Chinatown, NYC - this is barely more than two streets. The one in NYC is about the size of Camden Town!). It isn't the cleanest, it's not the most attractive looking. You're in, you eat, theyre clearing up before you finish, the service is a little sloppy, and theyre sometimes rude.......but THAT'S what you go for!! And again, under a tenner and you are stuffed!

Best restaurant that I've been to so far in London is on Upper Street in Islington, called Le Mercury.
Traditional french cuisine for under Ł15 for two courses (on average), great choice of dishes on the menu, extensive wine list and fabulous service. Only drawback I have to say is that the space is a little cramped and if possible it would be advisable to book a table beforehand or arrive early (or late) on the evening. ![]() |

Not London but not exactly it's own thread either
Carrington Arms
Cranfield Road Moulsoe Newport Pagnell Buckinghamshire MK16 0HB Not a bad little place. Out of the way, very small quiet and decent food. Good place to get away from people.

I have a friend from Newport Pagnell, I'll ask her if she's been.

Ah, Newport Pagnell, adjacent to the delights of the M1.
Now Horton-cum-Studley, now there's a place name for you!

I'm sure the Wheelies would have had something to say about that...
