Good Music?

Right now I hate everything that gets played on the radio.

I get into these moods from time to time. Mostly because the radio stations 'round these here parts have a tendency to suck all the fun out of music by playing the same 8-9 songs over and over with the same DJ's that tell the same jokes day in and day out... regardless of what station you listen to.

so, I'm in search of good music that doesn't get much or any radio play.

I've had some success, I've found the Vandals, NOFX, Mi6, and the Dead Kennedys, but I still would like to know what else is out there.

So, if you know of any good bands (and it doesn't even have to be punk) feel free to share.

rock on, Moel, for the listing of BRMC. incredible group.

i'd like to add Cibo Matto, Morcheeba, Ladytron, the Beta Band, Wilco and Stiff Little Fingers.

not sure if any of those are radio-worthy since i rarely listen to the shite on the waves, but that's some good music that should take you far.

Thanks for the suggestions.

As soon as I get my computer fixed I'll be able to listen to some of these (no sound and the damn thing crashed once while I was typing this... )

anyhow....

I think I'll go browse through the "What you listening to?" thread some more

assuming my computer doesn't burst into flames before I get there (which, my old monitor actually did)

one thing that i enjoy to find new music is MusicMatch Jukebox. it's a free program you can download that not only plays all your mp3's, but also has unique individualized radio that will take your tastes in music and plays similar artists. you can just enter the name of a group you like and get other music you may never heard of.

for instance:
i entered Veruca Salt and got a play list consisting of Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Silver Chair, and Hole, etc.

a great site for loads of FREE punk/indie mp3s, reviews, blurbs, etc is www.epitonic.com ... other good FREE mp3 sources: www.insound.com (super mail order, too) and www.pitchfork.com (great reviews, interviews, etc)

the following bands always seem to work for me, if'n i'm feeling in the punk rock mood (even though they aren't all punk rock):

ted leo/pharmacists or chisel
the descendents
elvis costello
superchunk
cursive
built to spill
...and you shall know us by the trail of the dead
