I have also used a similar technique on a net.art project. In one of my pieces your voice level will change the background of a photograph. This has had an interesting effect in public places as people will often start to hum in order to lower and raise the level of their voice to make things change.
The second piece will examine your webcam for movement, your mic for sound, and keyboard and mouse for input. If there is any changes then nothing will happen. If you place yourself in a non input environment then the photograph will speak to you. http://people.uleth.ca/~jason.brackman/flashtest Obviously a mic would be required.
