I cancelled my cable television today. I only have four channels now, one of which is french. I am sick and tired of reality tv shows, and commercials and the absolute brainwash that is being spewed out onto the television.
And what makes it worse, is you people who buy into it. Sitting in coffee shops listening to fat housewives talk about who is going to be bumped off the bachelorette tonight. Sitting at work hearing the secretaries in the lunch room pondering over who is cuter in survivor.
Take a girl out for dinner and she doesnt shut up about the last episode of friends and the thursday night line up with donald trump.
Anyone who buys into this is a complete moron and needs to pick up a book. I know people that plan their evenings around this shit and i make clear to not associate with them, period.
When i called Bell, my cable provider and told them to cut off my cable they insisted there was something wrong, like a problem. Who goes without television? Why would someone choose to write, read or perhaps go out? My god you must be mad.

Tv offers a lot of people (most, even geniuses) an escape...stress reliever...a time when they don't have to use their brain too hard while kicking back in a comfy spot. Are all the movies you see incredibly meaningful and deep? Probably not.. I'll bet even Jesus enjoys a light silly movie now and then huh?

Kind of shrinks your pool of possible friends if you limit your associations only to people who don't watch TV regularly doesn't it?

i dont own a tv & it's been like that for the past 3 years, quite honestly i much prefer it that way, I go to the cinema from time to time. i also have a dvd player on my pc so that my little boy can have a special treat occasionaly (also handy with the choice of languages he can wath things in french or english). In the evenings it's so much nicer to be able to either sit by the fire with the lights down listeneing to some good music with a glass of wine, or snuggle up in bed with a good book...
