I thought I'd be hearing about NaNo soon.

auntie, how many hours did you put in per day last year? I'm on the fence, 'cause I'm barely staying awake as it is.

oh god, i have no idea. i had just been laid off so i had all the time in the world to piddle away on that project. basically i set a minimum per diem word count (2000) and tried to surpass that each day. 2000 words a day really isn't that much. that's, what, 4 pages in word? that's totally doable. on average i was knocking out 7-10 pages daily.

p.s. if you decide to participate we should exchange screennames so we can leave each other encouragement.

Hell yes! Last year I was so fired up and ready to go... until I remembered that November is 'exam month' for me, so I figured I'd just wait until I left school. 'Just' wait? No way! I'm going for it, exams or no! I've only got a 10k word count goal, but I'm aiming to write the whole 50k over a longer time period.

Strangely enough, I am 26k into mine and I don't know what the hell I am writing about.

I was talking to a friend about my novel today and she asked if it was my NaNo novel. "Kind of," I said, "I'm writing it in a month, but not November."
"So which month are you writing it in?" she asked.
"Well, you know some cultures have a lunar calendar, so one cycle of the moon is a month? I figure I can base my calendar on the earth's revolutions around the sun, so each time the earth goes round the sun it's one month. Or maybe I'll base it on Mars' revolutions, that's around two years per month."
"Uh huh..."

Yes, yes there's just not enough hours in the day. Back in the Pre-Cambrian for instance the day was only 22 hours long, which I think goes a long way to explaining the lack of decent novels found amongst the Ediacaran fauna.

Is anybody in?

I'm a latecomer to the party - I just discovered NaNoWriMo a few days ago, and I've never written anything even remotely resembling a novel. I'm looking for writing buddies, because I think I'm going to need some encouragement. Maybe a lot of encouragement. Here's my profile, if you're NaNo-ing, add me.

i'm going to need my fair share of encouragement. it's day 2 and i'm only just today back from a week long vacation. so i'm behind the 8 ball. i need to work double time if i'm going to get back on schedule.
