Have a Hurricane Party
with the impending storm heading for the atlantic coast, lighten the mood by getting slammed by alcohol. have a hurricane party.
after you board up all your windows, doors, etc, secure your pets and what not, head for the store. ignore all those fighting over bottled and jugged water, toiletries, canned foods, bread, etc. head for the alcohol aisle. since you aren't in louisiana, you shouldn't have too much company there (people in La head for the alcohol first) buy several cases of beer, bottles of wine, fifths of your poison of choice. it'll be a long night, but being hammered will help. get bags of ice if you buy beer. make a list of those people you truly like. from this list, call only those who you won't mind being around while drunk (or while they're drunk). give them a call and tell them of your plans for a hurricane party-- they'll thank you for your ingenious idea in lightening the mood. after these preparations, get everyone together and live it up. of course, you'll have to keep the weather channel on, but start taking wagers on the movement of the storm, change in wind speed, etc. to make it interesting. once the alcohol has set in somewhat and the discussion turns from the storm, you will find yourselves actually having a little bit of fun, and the comraderie will help take your mind off what's coming. also, these parties are also laced with luck, as I have endured the threat of hurricanes in louisiana for years and, at the last minute, the hurricanes have made last minute turns or have weakened inexplicably each and every time i've been to a hurricane party. at any rate, we're all thinking of you atlantic coast people at this time. let us know you're all ok once it passes.
