website help - computer help
anyone know how to block a specific IP from visiting your personal webspace? I have the freebie geocities.com site, so I doubt there's anything I can do, but I thought I'd ask.

My boyfriend- the computer guru, says that most people have dynamic addresses which change IP's every once in a while.
It might not help to block the specific IP. |

You can get the IP address when the page is loaded, but what to do with it?

I have no clue about how to block an ip address.
but I do have a question, any dreamweaver users that can help me stop opening my links into a new window? it's frustrating and I am getting nowhere when putting my site together because of it. ![]()

You're out of luck w/a geocities site. Geocities themselves might chose to block say, a known spammer from "Geocities" in general, but not from individual personal sites.
You need your own server to do this yourself... www.NYCStopLookingIntoMyLife.com ![]() Just out of curiosity, why do you monitor who *exactly* visits your site?

Her ex is visiting her site.
Since he has an easily identifiable IP adress...he is probably using a static IP adress. So Joppa.gal's BF's advice might not apply. Doubt that there is a way to block an individual from visiting your site though. Crosses fingers that I'm wrong. Not sure why it bugs you that he is visiting your site. If it is a blog you don't want him reading...perhaps there is a way you can password protect it...but then you'd have to give everyone you DO want to view it, the password...hasslehoff in the extreme though. ![]() |

hahahahahahahaha! I might just have to get that one! Quote:
You'd think several months later he'd just stop. I'm sure he's unaware that I know he's going by, but it doesn't stop me from wanting him not to visit it, y'know? So I thought I'd ask the smart people of this board if they knew a solution. Blah. |

I password protected my blog for awhile... It's a little bit of a pain in the butt, but it works - Just send the password to the people you know visit the site regularly that you *want* there...
There are a few sites that explain how it's done - pretty much you create a text file that has your password and username in it, and another for it to interact with - then you place it in the directory your index page is (via FTP is best) and then rename the file by removing the extension (.txt). The site I found explained it *much* better than that ![]()
