When I moved a year ago I got some really good advice here.

Using drawers as boxes and keeping a "survival box" with toaster, kettle, cleaning gear, anything-needed-in-first-24-hours etc were big winners on the day.

you can also look at cups & plates & glasses made for restaurants & hotels, those will last forever and don't break or crack.
T Town has the Libbey Glass Factory warehouse down town; everything under the sun ( and those fabulous restaurant dishes too ) set in a Farmer's Market. One of the few cool things here really...'cept our museum, which is killer.

i'm having a hard time thinking a grown up person is posting this drivel.
Drivel? That's harsh. You don't know me, but I don't dribble any more than the next guy. I didn't mention anyone in my moving tip (my hard lesson learned the hard way), but I seem to have offended LaPietra anyway. Touchy as she is, you'd think she didn't pay to have her refrigerator moved. Now she's accusing me of being someone she's having some sort of fight with? No thanks! But I do seem to have put my foot in it!! In the immortal words of Steve Martin ....WELL EXCUUUUUUUUSSSSSSE MEEEE.

We've met before..I didn't like you then either. And don't use Steve Martin's words in vain..he doesn't like you either. Buh-bye now.

ETA..that wouldn't happen to be a CRAZY quilt pattern..would it?

And Clytie..
sorry your thread got hijacked. xoxoxoxo

Clytie, start buying the local paper as soon as possible! I hope the move's going well for you.
Completely unpack at least one box a day, and don't let any box sit for so long that you get used to looking at it and before you know it, it starts to look like part of the furniture where you're setting things on top of it, etc.

Clytie

Keep one box close at hand. It is your 'primary needs' box. Toilet paper, make-up, one mug for coffee, and a spoon. Bring the coffee maker in that box so you can make instant soup, coffee or tea, instant potatoes etc.. That box will have the most important stuff in it that you need for easy access. Put in a tea towel and dish cloth, bathroom towel and facecloth. Cleaning supplies and body soap, blow dryer etc. as well as anything else you'll need right away go into this box.

This box will be the last thing into the car and the first thing out of it.
