How about a song about the fact that it's my birthday today and I wish I could go see my friends and family but I'm stuck doing school work because grad school is really hard?

Or just about wanting to be with loved ones on a special day.

Posted by: Lauren at November 8, 2007 2:44 PM

How can one suck at life?

Posted by: njaffo at November 8, 2007 2:45 PM

I wish I had a song when things get annoying at work. Right now, I tend to sing the Wallace and Gromit theme song to myself (a suggestion from a co-worker), and it works ok, but I often can't remember how it goes and get it confused with the theme from the Great Escape. So something that sounds like neither of those, for when I get annoyed at lazy people at work.

Posted by: Kate at November 8, 2007 2:46 PM

I wish I had a hungry song.

Posted by: Nick at November 8, 2007 2:59 PM

hmm... I wish I had a song for when I get out of bed before my alarm clock goes off, ready for the day ahead. I haven't felt like that in a while and the song might help me bring back those times.

Also: I think I just died of a pop (music) overdose. Still awesome though.

Posted by: the_wakeful at November 8, 2007 3:01 PM

I need a song to psych me up to go to the dentist.

I'm scared of the dentist.

Posted by: Ian at November 8, 2007 3:02 PM

How about a song for: Where did I put my f*cking keys.

I could sing it almost daily. Bit hit.

Posted by: ingrid at November 8, 2007 3:02 PM

I wish I had a song to explain the joys of Hawaiian Shirt Friday.

Posted by: n0s0ap at November 8, 2007 3:06 PM

thanks. :)

A song for when my IPOD is out of music juice.

Posted by: njaffo at November 8, 2007 3:08 PM

Hi Ze.

First off: Sweet song. I like it.

Second: I'd like to have a song for when I'm head over feet in love. ;o)

Thanx, .

Posted by: dot(.) at November 8, 2007 3:14 PM

awesome, super-big grins follow!

some people i know (not me, no, never:)) might like a song for to chase brain crack out of one's mental-verse

Posted by: ergo at November 8, 2007 3:15 PM

thank you so much for being around this week. i am sick and i wish i had a song for when i am on my couch feeling yucky and nobody is there to pat my head and bring me orange juice.

Posted by: arugala at November 8, 2007 3:20 PM

How about a song to your friends who keep trying to get you together with some girl that you don't want to be near because she threatened to kill you multiple times?

Posted by: Kake at November 8, 2007 3:21 PM

Glad to have you back bro...

And I think that video was perfect for it. The huge grin said both 'I'm singing and I love it' and 'ah crap! People are staring at me!'

All good.

Posted by: The Invisible Man at November 8, 2007 3:21 PM

How about a song about wonderful everyday discoveries?

A delicious sandwich?
A short cut through traffic no one knows about?
An attractive new face where you get your hair cut?

Posted by: zoomsoon at November 8, 2007 3:39 PM

Hey ze! Ya feel like making new songs like this and "Social Network For Two" instantly available on iTunes?

Posted by: zoomsoon at November 8, 2007 3:42 PM

about how difficult it is to apologize for something, especially when you know you need to eat crow and do it.

Posted by: Ke Ruthe at November 8, 2007 3:42 PM

Oh I would love an Mp3 of this song.

Posted by: James at November 8, 2007 3:46 PM

very nice. I thought for a second you were going for the Blair Witch effect.

Posted by: Jon at November 8, 2007 3:54 PM

Thank you, ze. I get scared more than I'd like to admit.

(I also love the concept of "songs you already know.")

Posted by: Amanda at November 8, 2007 3:55 PM

How about a song for when I know I'm average.

Posted by: TK42ONE at November 8, 2007 3:56 PM

A few moments of pure awesomeness in a otherwise crappy day. It put a smile on my face.

Thanks ze!

Posted by: Viola Zuppa at November 8, 2007 4:02 PM

I wish I had a song to help me feel better when it feels like everything I used to be good at I'm not good at anymore. A song for when I've rediscovered my own humility. A "dust yourself off and get back on your feet" sort of song. A song for how I'm feeling right now.

Posted by: Steve at November 8, 2007 4:18 PM

I gotta agree with 'the_wakeful' here, having a wakeup song would be awesome.

Thanks for brightening up my day, Ze!

Posted by: Hamish M at November 8, 2007 4:20 PM

Sometime, Ze, my teeth feel too sharp. Am I alone in this? A song of solidarity for people with with too-sharp teeth?

Posted by: djeepster at November 8, 2007 4:24 PM

horribly impolite... made a request without thanking you.

thank you. :) i smile with everyone else at you.

Posted by: ingrid at November 8, 2007 4:27 PM

:D :D :D

That's a lot of comments. And fast. :D

The Show, anyone? Sorry Ze, but it looks as if you were still wanted back there. :D I'd appreciate that, too. ;o)

A positively stunned .

Posted by: dot(.) at November 8, 2007 4:27 PM

Where is the MP3 of that? I want it as my new ringtone!!!

Posted by: Ward at November 8, 2007 4:29 PM

Thanks for the new song.

I wish I had a song for when my creativity decides to take a vacation, or for when I have car trouble.

Posted by: Jeremy at November 8, 2007 4:30 PM

thanks for making me smile today! we missed you Ze!!!

Posted by: Matt at November 8, 2007 4:36 PM

yea! very catchy.

how about a song for when vivid dream imagery from that morning pops up into my brain and derails me from whatever i'm doing that moment.

e.g. zombies in an elevator shaft (remembered while packing my backpack and forgetting to bring the witch broom that someone left at the party), a "hobo" cutting off his own thumb (which made me yell AAAAAAAAAAAAAA! in a van full of people), and you telling me I should go into politics (that one didn't derail me from anything in particular, but it really messed with my head. I like your work but stay out of my morning dream mind! And that idea is just absurd anyways.)

Posted by: old grimy at November 8, 2007 4:38 PM

Thank you SO much for the song. it's addictive and puts a smile on my face.

Maybe a song for when you feel like you need a hug and there's no one around willing to give a hug?

Posted by: Chuck at November 8, 2007 5:10 PM

To Kate, who wanted a song for when things get annoying at work:

May I suggest Goose's whipass remix?

Posted by: Zebe at November 8, 2007 5:17 PM

Wow, has anyone ever asked if you'd like to do a children's show? You would be fantastic.

I have a feeling bumblebee isn't far behind...

Posted by: Rachael at November 8, 2007 5:30 PM

I wish I had a song when Ze posts a video.

Oh Ze, you clever soul
posting a video.
Why am I always last to know?

Oh Ze, you make us laugh
posting a video
how do you make them so fast?

Now if only I could figure out how to make the melody come across in the textbox..

Posted by: CTodd: /sea'tôd/ - n. at November 8, 2007 5:34 PM

how about a song for when you move to a foreign country and have no friends and are lonely.

Posted by: jodi at November 8, 2007 5:35 PM

I'd likey for an iPhone ring!

Wouldn't mind a wonderfully downturn version with Jonathan Coulton either.

Thanks Ze!

Posted by: ImageWrangler at November 8, 2007 5:37 PM

I need a song for when I do something really stupid and embarrassing in public, like walk into a glass door or trip over myself. I still obsess over embarrassing crap that happened to me when I was in middle school--I need a song to help me move on and get over it.

Posted by: Jordan at November 8, 2007 5:57 PM

A song for when I can't go to sleep at night because my brain is too fizzy with stuff but I'm too bone tired to work or even play and I just want to sleep. At least for a little while.

Posted by: Mary Ann at November 8, 2007 6:01 PM

Yeah, I was gonna say, we already have the "annoyed at work" song. You can hum it to yourself.

Posted by: Johannes Golden at November 8, 2007 6:07 PM

Since I am never scared I usually sing when I am really angry.

Posted by: Bruno Tuffie at November 8, 2007 6:30 PM

cute song. it made me happy today.

Posted by: becky at November 8, 2007 6:35 PM

I'd love an "I told you so" song. You know, when you want to tell someone that you told them so... but you can't.

Maybe then you could play the song.

Posted by: Justin Russell at November 8, 2007 6:46 PM

a song on loneliness perhaps

Posted by: BeachBallBalloonBoy at November 8, 2007 6:55 PM

Oh, and Ze, from my experience, there's always one thing in common with things that are described with "needs a better ______": they're always better than you think.

Overthinking something can sometimes be very bad.

Posted by: Justin Russell at November 8, 2007 6:55 PM

There are those occasions when I am sitting on the porcelain throne and I know it will be awhile because I didn't eat my wheaties that morning. You know the time. Anyway, a song to keep my mind off the task at hand and some how relax myself for the long journey ahead... or is that long journey behind. *sigh* >grunt< *sigh*

Posted by: Greg at November 8, 2007 7:14 PM

@ Justin Russel : I used to watch this kid's show, and it had an "I was right and you were wrong" song.

@ Ze: Awesome song/ vid...<3
I would like a song explaining to Freud and his freudians that everything is not about sex. It could even just list things that aren't about sex.

Posted by: benny at November 8, 2007 7:15 PM

Fab song, would love to have it as an mp3 too. Oh yeah, it's nice to see your face again and smiling :D

Posted by: The Fly at November 8, 2007 7:18 PM

I wish Ihad a song to sing when I get high-blood pressure from listening to George W. Bush and his gang of thugs' spit their fascist propaganda.

Posted by: Ronnie Aulder at November 8, 2007 7:38 PM

This song + the happy look on your face in turn make me feel good inside. BTW, your white balance was flipping out.

Posted by: Anton at November 8, 2007 7:38 PM

How about a song for figuring out how the hell one's going to pay for college? =D

Posted by: Win nadeau at November 8, 2007 8:30 PM

Posted by: Imagine at November 8, 2007 8:33 PM

the video was badass. the song was even badasser.

thanks, ze.

my teeth are too sharp too. oh well

Posted by: loganck at November 8, 2007 8:53 PM

What about a song for when you like a girl and you hope she likes you, and you feel silly for having a crush like a middle schooler even though your chronologically a grown-up.

Posted by: Ben at November 8, 2007 9:07 PM

I agree with invisibleman that the video is perfect. What he said. What I say: now the song is stuck in my head, but it is okay because it does not scare me, instead it just moves me along.

Posted by: jeano at November 8, 2007 9:10 PM

How about a song when you're feeling sleepy - something to wake you up, give you more energy...

Also, a song when you're stressed out - with a thousand things on your mind.

And, yeah... getting an MP3 version would be great (even an extended version) :)

Posted by: Hannes at November 8, 2007 9:19 PM

I've listened to this song several times already today. Today's been a bit of a failure as I keep coming up against the edge of my knowledge with this app I'm trying to write.

It's been frustrating, but I stop to take a break, listen to you song again, and everything is alright.

You so need to produce an album with all your songs. I'd buy it.

Posted by: Colin at November 8, 2007 9:32 PM

Thanks, Ze.
Oh, and happy birthday to Lauren! I have no idea who you are, but I hope you have a great time with your friends when you finally get together.
How about a song for momentary panic? Like, when you discover something which appears, on the surface, really wrong and you need to fight the temptation to panic in order to work it out. (And it will, of course, turn out to be not as bad as you thought.)

Posted by: Pseudonym at November 8, 2007 9:38 PM

When I got here the race had already started, but I stayed, and I'm glad.

You have a blog?

Posted by: Steven at November 8, 2007 9:44 PM

It might be nice to have a song for feeling guilty about something.

Posted by: panzyfaust at November 8, 2007 9:45 PM

I really enjoy this. It's such an upbeat tune, and your smile growing as it goes on just adds to the happy-factor it gives out.

Posted by: Floipoid at November 8, 2007 9:57 PM

Posted by: Mathias at November 8, 2007 9:59 PM

i think the video is pure awesomeness. i totaly felt like we were strolling down the street together.

how about a song when you just feel inadequate.

Posted by: ljiljana at November 8, 2007 10:47 PM

I'd pay 99¢ for that!

Posted by: richoid at November 8, 2007 11:34 PM

Nice to see you again!

Posted by: margot at November 9, 2007 12:37 AM

i wish i had a song for standing in the deli line at the grocery store, waiting for my number to come up. well, i do have a song, but i wish i had a better one...

Posted by: liz at November 9, 2007 12:46 AM

I wish I had a song to sing when I'm in the elevator with strangers (to sing in my head, not outloud.) Or even better, I wish I had a song to sing when I've got an itch I can't scratch, like a mosquito bite below the nostril.

Catchy tune, by the way. The smile on your face is contagious.

Posted by: Kim at November 9, 2007 1:02 AM

You're either wearing the iPhone earbuds with R/L reversed or you mirrored the video! (The mic/clicker goes on the right)

Posted by: julian at November 9, 2007 1:09 AM

I am less scared already.

Thank you, Ze.

Posted by: bouncy at November 9, 2007 1:20 AM

I wish I had a song for when I wake up at 4a.m. and can't go back to sleep because the combination of anxiety about geopolitics, the economy, and my impending doom... I mean my impending graduation from college and into the real world. I fear that I'm going to pull an "Into the Wild" and go be a lonely tramp, move to Alaska, inadvertently parallelize my digestive system and die after finally realizing what I want out of life.

Posted by: Barry at November 9, 2007 2:52 AM

how about a song for when you move to a new place, and happen to have two football tickets to the biggest game in town but don't have any friends to go with so you call some people that you would like to be your friends and they turn you down quite patronizingly, so you go by yourself and hate it.

Or something cheery about watermelon or tang. Whatever.

Posted by: Lala at November 9, 2007 4:44 PM

one for all the children where the grown ups promise to play nice, pick up after ourselves and have fun together. Sort of like, "Everything I needed to know I learned in kindergarten".

Posted by: Awed Job at November 9, 2007 4:45 PM

I'm sick of staring at a blank sheet of paper and having nothing to write on it. I'm sick of feeling apathetic to the beauty and excitement all around me (and in my head!). I'm sick of feeling like my life is mundane and uninteresting and no longer worth writing about.

Sing something that makes me feel passionate about everyday stuff, ze.

Posted by: Jim at November 9, 2007 4:50 PM

Ze, i've missed you so. i loved the new song. it already gets stuck in my head all the time. remeber the rugrats episode where chucky is scared to climb the slide? He repeats the words "i'm a big brave dog" over and over again... ever since then that is what i say every time i am scared... but this might be even better... thanks ze <3

Posted by: Kayla at November 9, 2007 5:33 PM

That would help me be less frightened. Thanks!

I could use a song when dealing with massive amounts of self doubt that seem to snowball and have me questioning why I do anything at all. That or a song to help me get through the blowback social punishments of questioning authority.

Sleep and throwing things only work to avoid the issues.

Music is healing. I had forgotten.

Posted by: Boo at November 9, 2007 7:01 PM

Thanks, Ze!
I love Nick's idea of a hungry song.
How 'bout an anti-denial song, too?

Posted by: beckyb at November 9, 2007 10:51 PM

Ze, you haz a ifone?

Posted by: whytheam at November 9, 2007 11:32 PM

I'd like a song to help the ennui'ed deal with mild ennui.
I'd like a song for when I'd like to slap someone angrily with a rubber chicken, but I can't cause they would take it far too personally, even if I didn't mean to devalue them as a person. I'd like a song to sing when I catch myself yelling at the television.

Posted by: Ed at November 9, 2007 11:45 PM

I wish I had a song for every wildflower that made me feel so good to be alive.

Posted by: gail at November 10, 2007 12:34 AM

I think you should do a song that covers every aforementioned topic. Cause it seems like everybody just wants a song for their current state of being. You might as well try to please everyone all the time in one three-minute video.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut, if you really only wanted to hit one topic how about a song for "I need to stop asking out my friends."

Posted by: Drewby at November 10, 2007 3:30 AM

this is a good song for my kids. and me. thanks!

Posted by: jen lemen at November 10, 2007 8:15 PM

Posted by: LoPhatt at November 11, 2007 8:50 AM

Posted by: mgabrys at November 11, 2007 9:15 AM

Lala! I'm so sorry to hear about the divorce! Best wishes and hugs and support to you.

I love this song. And I agree that the video is purrrrfect. I just sent it to a friend whose hard disk crashed yesterday, causing her to lose a year or two's worth of work on something, and it helped her -- so it must be good. :-)

I wish I had a phone that was new enough to let you download ringtones, and then I would add my voice to the ones that long for your songs in ringtones. (How great would that be?!?!?!)

Posted by: rumigirl at November 11, 2007 10:16 AM

Awesome! I wish there was an mp3 version of this to download! Would TOH-tally pay for it on iTunes (like the kickass songs from the show that are already there).

Posted by: chelle at November 11, 2007 10:25 AM

how about a song for when you're in an MRI machine to ease the horrid noise?

"this is a song that i sing when the MRI is deafening-- i dont know why but it helps me get over it

the mean rumbling noise just leaves me no choice but singing this song to get over it"

Posted by: Frieda at November 11, 2007 4:04 PM

Posted by: Tara Wheeler at November 14, 2007 12:51 AM

Damn Ze,
Life kinda sucked a little without the show everyday. You wouldn't believe how many Hard Chargers there are out there.

How about a song for the days when the writers of your favorite TV shows go on strike, your hard drive dies suddenly without any warning, and your cat pees on the floor of your bathroom, which you discover when greeting the morning to do your business.

Posted by: Andrew Venegas at November 14, 2007 1:15 AM

I'm age 50 and scared of alot of things. Your video is inspirational to me. I'd like to send this video to my sons (29 and 22) to let them know it's okay to be scared. This, too, shall pass. I'm scared of memories lost.

I wish I had a song for when I don't know what to do with my life. ...or for when I'm constipated.
...same difference, really.

The song reminds me a bit of the Bittersweet Symphony song.

But how about for the next song I send you the lyrics and you write the music? ^.^

I'd like a song for when I'm feeling amorous.

I wish I had a song for the emotion between like and love

This song actually helped me get through the last few days - I just had an interview I was very nervous about, and this helped me get over it and I did well. :-) Thanks Ze!

As for when I need a song...how about one for "This morning sucks and I don't want to be here but I have to if I want to make money"? Or "I just finished a project and I'm feeling really good." And I recently noticed a great dearth of songs in my collection that express just plain ol' friendship -- i.e. a "You're a cool person and I like hanging out with you" song.

I wish I had a song for when friends begin to drift apart. That sad sad thing that everyone goes through. Or maybe its just me. But its sad nonetheless.

Look up top below the video it's for sale now....Zefrank, thanx, but you would sell a LOT more if you made the buy option more noticeable and obvious

i will second the "where did i put my keys"request.

or maybe a song for when you just really don't want to go to work, but there's no other option.

Posted by: Plus at December 3, 2007 2:30 AM

I'd love a song that gets me pumped to do homework. ._. for some reason i can never get it done. I have classes piling up and ... T-T! I NEED A HOMEWORK SONG lol <3

I absolutely love you. You make great songs lol & you really seem like a sweet guy XD

Thank you for this song. It really gets me going when I am down!

I wish I had a song for when I'm going on a first date with someone and I hope it goes well because I really do believe that it could be great, but a part of me feels like I might not really be ready for a relationship right now, but a larger part of me feels that its time to stop being alone and get out there.

I wish I had a song for everyone's favorite game; "Where the f**k did I park?" :D

Posted by: Shaymus22 at February 3, 2008 10:45 PM

Ze, If you still listen to this (Your BEST song) then I Vote for a song about how the worlds become a community of super secular nosy people. Oxymoronic, but none the less true.

This is the song that I sing while swimming during my triathlon training. I'm terrified of drowning so this song helps me when I start to panic out in open water. Thanks!

Posted by: NatWitt at June 13, 2008 1:45 PM

i was wondering what all the lyrics are, could you tell me?

Posted by: kat at September 1, 2008 8:24 AM

I wish I had a song that could help boost confidence. I mean, how many times did you wish you had a song when you weren't sure you could do something? Something a bit catchy like this song here. Something that helps lift the spirit when you are down.

Ever heard of "Songs to Wear Pants to?" This guy has been creating custom songs for years.

Posted by: Rahel at December 23, 2008 4:11 PM

Posted by: will at June 12, 2010 8:46 PM

this is a song that I sing when I'm scared of something. I dont know why but it helps me get over it. THe words of this song just move me along and somehow I get over it.

At least i dont suck at life,
I keep on trying to spy.

I think it's "I keep on trying despite", not "I keep on trying to spy."

A song for when you're scared... because of the scary maze game?

Posted by: Sophie at December 25, 2010 4:35 PM

A song to help you get over it, when you lose a friend ( not like they died) but you had to go your ceperates ways. And your upset.

Or your upset.
Or everyone is making you mad.
Or your mad at the world.
Or if you miss someone and you know you can't be with them.
Or your heart aches.

I saw your talk on Ted.com, and it was amazing. It's awesome what you do.
Best wishes to you,
keep doing good.

Hmm, this reminds me of a type of song that would be played during the ending scenes of an episode of House MD (if you watch House, you may agree with me). Has the feeling to it, and the lyrics could work well enough for an episode of House, as well. :D

Dear ze,

i was hopping you could make a song for me. today my friend asked out the guy i like for me. he said no, that he doesn't want to go out with anyone, and that it's not me, it's him. i want a song that will give me hope for when i ask him myself, to tell me that i can still be friends with him, and that i don't have to be scared every time i see him and he talks to me.

Posted by: michelle at April 4, 2012 6:44 PM

So glad you're making a show again. Your songs and quotes made my day every time I heard them, and I legitimately used this song to get over some rough stuff.
Can... can I hear a song? About computers? ^w^

Posted by: Will at April 17, 2012 4:33 AM

I didn't know you existed until today, watched your ted talk on netflix. How about a song for when you feel kinda crazy for not acting crazy after a tragedy?

Posted by: Lorrie at April 22, 2012 12:07 AM

I just recently moved away from my hometown and this is the first time I've been away from my mother and the rest of my family. I don't know anyone here except for my boyfriend and I feel really lonely a lot. Maybe a song to cheer up all the lonely people?
I'm a very nervous person by nature and your songs really help calm me down sometimes. Thank you. <3
